Expert interview with
Cameron McIntosh of Americhanvre
Where is Hempcrete standing today?
So right now, Hempcrete is more or less in the natural building arena, along with cob or straw bale, but we’re hoping that the material can graduate from the quote unquote natural building scene and become a more widespread, more openly adopted bio-composite material that is able to be specified for the types of projects where you wouldn’t normally see a natural building material.
How would having more professionals be familiar with this material help with wider adoption nationwide?
It’s very important to us that professionals within the construction industry have a good understanding and grasp of the material because of the stigma associated mostly with the word hemp often leaves us to be dismissed, for obvious reasons, but the performance benefits and the material health, I think, are two things that should be very interesting to professionals within the construction industry and allow us to overcome that stigma that’s associated with the cannabis plant.
